Two Eternal Destinations: Heaven and Hell - Where are you headed?

This sermon was challenging to preach; not because the text was confusing but because the weight and reality of hell are challenging to communicate in our culture today. The sobering reality is that all mankind is born in a sinful state (Psalm 51:5, Romans 1:21-25, Ephesians 2:1-3) and deserves to face the wrath and justice of God (an eternity in a literal hell) for their wickedness and rebellion. That's the bad news.

However, as challenging as hell and the "bad news" may be to fathom, I pray that all who watch this sermon will hear the glorious good news of the gospel - loud and clear!

Here's the good news: the hand of God is currently extended towards mankind in a posture of mercy through the person and the work of Jesus Christ. The Bible says that all who call on Jesus in repentance and faith will be saved! (Romans 10:8-10) This undeserved invitation of God redeems people and causes them to become a part of His family (Ephesians 2:4-9, Romans 6:23, John 3:16). Therefore, Christians can have confidence and assurance because they have been chosen, adopted, forgiven, and redeemed by the person and work of Jesus Christ and now look forward to their eternal destination (heaven).

If you're not a Christian, please read those Scriptures carefully and prayerfully ask God to open your eyes to see the depth of your depravity and your sinfulness, as well as your need for a Rescuer who can atone for your rebellion and reconcile you to God. You can be saved from the wrath of God by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Remember, the gospel is only good news if you respond in time! You only get one life and it determines your eternal destination! If you have questions about how to become a Christian, please don't hesitate to contact me.

If you're a Christian, my challenge to you this week is to continue to ascribe praise, thanksgiving, and gratitude to God for His sovereign initiative in choosing you, saving you, and transforming you more and more into the likeness of Jesus! In light of that reality, I also challenge you to live with evangelistic urgency and zeal to lovingly engage the lost, share the gospel, and make disciples. Our world needs hope and it's only found through a relationship with Jesus Christ; tell others how they can! Engage the world, share the gospel (Mark 16:15, 1 Peter 3:15), and make disciples for the glory of God alone.
